Principal's Message
Upcoming Parent Meeting: “Let’s Talk about School”
I would like to invite you to an upcoming opportunity to speak with me and other Everson staff to share and discuss questions that you may have about your child’s education and well-being at school.  The meeting is called, “Let’s Talk About School.”

Meeting Details:
  • Spanish Session: Thursday, November 21 at 6:00 PM (Sylvia Mendoza)
  • Location: School Library
  • Child Care: Provided
I will also come prepared to discuss how we support students at school and share information about the impact of digital technology on our children. This is a casual and relaxed discussion format that I hope will be informative and helpful to you.  I hope to see you there.

Thanks - Kevin DeVere

Please plan to attend this very helpful, informative workshop being offered for FREE TONIGHT at Nooksack Valley Middle School.  A great opportunity for families in our community to learn and grow.  The Parenting with Courage & Connection Workshop is designed for all parents to address common challenges associated with raising children & teens. Parents will learn brain-based strategies to address conflict, strengthen connections with their kids, respectfully discipline, and more.

Monthly Spirt Days
At EES we have decided to dial up the school spirit - and the fun.  We will have Spirt days on Fridays. Most Fridays will be Nooksack Purple Pride. Wear your Nooksack gear or the color purple. The last Friday of the month will be a special spirit dress up day. Our first special day will be Friday, November 22 and it is "Cozy Flannel/Plaid Day". Wear your favorite flannel shirt or pants.

Health Screenings Coming Up at EES

The Nooksack Valley School District will conduct health screenings in each school the week of December 9th- December 20th. Everson Elementary will have health screenings on Dec. 17 and 18.  To promote student health and well-being, each child will receive a vision and hearing screening. You will be notified in writing if a concern is found as a result of any of these screenings. Information about each screening is provided below.

Washington State law mandates that the following screenings be completed:

1. Vision – Vision screenings are done using a spot screener. This tool screens for a variety of vision issues. Even if your child passes this screening, an exam from an eye doctor may still be needed. School nurses and trained parent volunteers will conduct this screen.

2. Hearing – Hearing screenings will be provided by a district speech and language therapist and trained para educator. Washington State law requires that two screenings occur before a referral is sent home to parents.

If you would like your child to be excluded from any part of the screening, please notify the school at 360-966-3321 or email liza.diaz@nv.k12.wa.us

We are still looking for one more volunteer for these days!  Please contact the office if you are interested.  Thank you in advance for being willing to help out.

Community Events
GIVING TREE
The NVHS ASB Leadership Team and Nooksack Valley Family Services are sponsoring a Giving Tree at the high school. We have a number of families from the Nooksack Valley School District who are in need of holiday assistance during this time of year.

We have chosen to collect “new” blankets (example, throw blankets from Costco) and socks (any size for babies/toddlers/teenagers and adults for all genders) for families this year as gifts and our goal is 400 items!  All items will find a home with Nooksack Valley families.

You may bring your donated blankets and socks to the office of any Nooksack Valley School no later than Dec. 20.

Questions?  Contact Caity Kepler, NV High School ASB Advisor, at caity.kepler@nv.k12.was.us (360-988-2641, Ext. 3306), or Alice Linterman, NV High School Registrar, at alice.linterman@nv.k12.wa.us (360-988-2641, Ext. 3102).
